In addition to standalone rugs, Atlier Tortil offer wall-to-wall carpeting, crafted to seamlessly enhance and define larger spaces.
Hand Knotted
Atelier Tortil’s hand-knotted rugs are created on vertical looms, predominantly using cotton or wool as the foundation. Skilled artisans employ a range of knotting techniques to produce textures and depths unique to this method. Materials include wool, silk, and jute and Tencel with each rug can featuring varying heights creating a sculptural feel. This process, dating back centuries, allows Atelier Tortil to tailor each piece with a variety of materials, colours, and finishes, making these rugs highly customisable and unique to the client’s specifications.
Hand Tufted
The hand-tufted rugs of Atelier Tortil prioritise flexibility in pattern and colour, allowing for a more contemporary approach to design. Crafted by inserting yarns into a base fabric with a handheld tufting gun, these rugs often incorporate wool and silk for a luxurious touch and offer intricate designs that complement modern interiors. The Hirsi series, for example, is a standout within their collection, using this technique to bring a refined, textured appearance suitable for residential and commercial spaces.
Flat Weave
Atelier Tortil’s flat-weave rugs lean into minimalism and clean lines, and often use natural fibres like wool, jute and cotton, and are woven without pile for a slim profile. Some of the rugs are reversible and adaptable to various environments, from casual to formal spaces, and they provide a more lightweight, versatile option. The flat-weave technique emphasises the beauty of simple geometric or abstract patterns, offer great value and quick lead times making them a timeless addition to any space.
